Back to Blogs

Grants for the 2011 NSW Seniors Week are now available. The NSW Seniors Week Grants program is a part of NSW Seniors Week celebrations. 2011 NSW Seniors week will be held from 20-27 March 2011.
NSW Seniors Week grants are provided through Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) to support the development and organisation of local NSW Seniors Week projects.
These funds will be allocated to volunteer, local government and community organisations who plan to hold local events under the 2011 NSW Seniors Week Grants Program.
The NSW Government is making $175,000 available to fund local events during 2011 NSW Seniors Week. For further information contact the Project Manager on (02) 8270 2459.
Another very important part of seniors week is the NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards.
The NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards recognises NSW seniors for their contribution to the development of our community, for their leadership and for their initiative. The awards thank older people for the contribution they make to the quality of life in our state.
Award recipients are nominated in categories including Business, Community Service/Volunteering, Education and Lifelong Learning, Environment/Science/Agriculture, Health and Wellbeing and Intergenerational Understanding.

Also coming up are the Budget Estimates sessions for 2010-2011.
What are Budget Estimates?
The Legislative Council’s five General Purpose Standing Committees (GPSCs) may inquire into and report on any matters referred to them by the House; the expenditure, performance or effectiveness of any department of government, statutory body or corporation; any matter in any annual report of a department of government, statutory body or corporation.
Since 1995, the Budget Estimates and related papers have been referred to the GPSCs under paragraph 2(1) of the resolution establishing the committees for inquiry and report. During the hearings committee members question Ministers and CEOs of government agencies in order to scrutinize government expenditure and resource allocation. Government Ministers appear according to a schedule determined by the Legislative Council.
