Government to consider cutting ethics classes this week
Back to NewsMick Veitch MLC is appalled that Premier O’Farrell will this week take Reverend Fred Nile’s proposal to remove ethics classes from NSW schools to the Liberal and Nationals caucus – despite his backbench publically threatening to revolt over the broken election promise.
The Premier will take Reverend Nile’s proposal – which is in direct breach of his election commitment - to Cabinet in a bid to stop a disallowance motion against his unprecedented industrial relations laws.
“Unbelievably, Barry O’Farrell is taking the advice of Reverend Fred Nile over that of his Liberal and Nationals back-bench,” Mr Veitch said.
"It would appear that Barry O\'Farrell places more importance on Reverend Niles views than those of his own party.
“Barry O’Farrell promised to retain the popular ethics classes as an alternative to scripture during the election campaign. It is unbelievable that he would break this promise to the people of NSW.
“Even members of Barry O’Farrell’s own party room have come out against any changes to ethics classes, stating it would be in direct breach of the Premier’s election commitments.
“Clearly Reverend Nile is calling the shots in the O’Farrell Stoner Government. The ultra-conservative cross bench is running NSW, not Barry O\'Farrell."
