Small Business misses out in Jobs Action Plan
Back to NewsTreasurer Mike Baird must explain why his Jobs Action Plan only includes tax cuts and incentives for big business – leaving 90 per cent of the 640,000 small businesses in NSW with nothing.
"While he has been out spruiking his Jobs Action Plan, the Treasurer has conveniently failed to mention 90 per cent of small businesses in NSW will miss out completely on the incentives," Shadow Treasurer Michael Daley said.
“Under the O\'Farrell plan, businesses that increase employment levels will not pay any payroll tax on the additional employees for their first year of employment – but how are they trying to support the 640,000 small businesses in our State who don\'t pay payroll tax to begin with?
"This policy throws the Government\'s support directly behind big business, while ignoring the needs of small businesses right across our State.
"If the Government really wanted to help businesses hire new employees they would cut the payroll tax rate or increase the threshold.
"All the O\'Farrell Government\'s plan does is give a one off handout to big business.
"The Treasurer today claimed on radio that all NSW businesses would benefit from his plans to cut payroll tax.
"Either the Treasurer doesn’t understand his own portfolio or is deliberately trying to mislead the small business sector in NSW.
"Despite his claims, this plan does nothing to support the creation of jobs or cut tax rates for the overwhelming majority of small businesses."
Shadow Minister for Small Business Adam Searle said the O\'Farrell Government was also split on the rate of payroll tax in NSW.
"Parliamentary Secretary for Treasury and Finance, Matthew Mason Cox has called for the NSW payroll tax rate and threshold to be cut – which would mean thousands of small businesses would have to begin paying payroll tax," Mr Searle said.
"On one hand, the Treasurer claims all businesses will benefit from his payroll tax changes and on the other we have his Parliamentary Secretary arguing more businesses should be forced to pay the tax.
"Mr Baird must explain what the Government\'s real plans are for payroll tax in NSW."
